Updated: Feb 21

Travel does absolute wonders for our mental health.  It gives us a happiness boost, helps us feel calm, and reduces our stress.  When your work or personal life becomes overwhelming, there’s nothing better than a getaway to take your mind off your problems and reset.

That said, once we have kids travel tends to take a backseat for a while.  It’s too expensive, it requires too much coordination, it might mess with your child’s sleep patterns, you don’t want them to miss school… there will always be a reason not to travel with kids, and most of them are very valid.  But there are also a lot of great reasons why you should travel with your kids if you can.

Below are 8 important reasons to travel with your kids:

1. Traveling strengthens family relationships.

Family vacations lead to more quality time together and higher parental engagement, which strengthens bonds and helps families grow closer.

2. Traveling exposes children to new people and cultures.

3. Traveling helps develop children's self-confidence.

4. Traveling is educational.

5. Traveling exposes children to new experiences.

6. Traveling helps cultivate patience.

7. Traveling improves adaptability.

8. Traveling is fun.

I hope this list has you considering a family trip!  Remember that travel doesn't have to be overly expensive, stressful, or complicated.  You can plan a simple short weekend road trip to a nearby city, or even an adventure in your own hometown.

Wherever you go, spending time together is always worth it.
